Drusillas Outing

Drusillas!

Being a newbie to Brighton and in the midst of a pandemic, obviously there weren't many things I thought I could do with the kids or take them out anywhere. So I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled across a website (dayoutwiththekids.co.uk) linking to the places that were now open post-Covid. It was really helpful because with summer holidays and two bored kids at home, it was important to get them out. The weather was also sunny and bright in June, July and at the beginning of August so it would have been sad if we didn't make the most of this great (and rare) British weather!

Another reason was that K, my younger one was going to turn 3 years and that would mean us having to pay another child ticket. So I wanted to just get in there, while he was still old enough to do activities but also something that I didn't have to break the bank with. It hasn't been easy to take them out and keep them occupied but Brighton has been so community-minded, and people have been lovely so it has been great to live here and also discover new places.

Taking a look at the Drusillas website, they mentioned that many rides that were closed, understandably but they also had many that were open. So I booked tickets and even though the day was a bit gloomy, it was warm and the boys had a lovely time in their raincoats and wellies (which they didn't like wearing because they couldn't run around easily in them)!

We entered the park and there were hand sanitising stations everywhere. They were also good with the social distancing measures everywhere and had markers and indicators where everyone could stand on. People did practice social distancing and it was not mandatory to wear masks because we went in June just before the government made it a rule. However, we felt very safe and all rides were sanitised and the ride operators were very kind and they explained that they needed 5 minutes to sanitise everything. All well done!

We saw penguins, flamingos and many other animals - it was all fun. Even though the animals didn't practice social distancing we were well behind the glass windows and confines of the place. The boys loved it!

K loved the monkeys and kept saying "Hello Monkeys!"

There were fun rides, a carousel and even a farting elephant!

All in all, it was a fun day and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you Drusillas!
