The Top 5 Parks in Brighton!

When we first got to Brighton, we were surprised to find it hilly and windy. We thought it'd be a flat and expansive city, near the beach. Of course, modern, hip, trendy and multi-cultural as well as diverse was also other things we saw in looking at moving here. So we were also pleasantly surprised when we discovered some very cool parks in Brighton, not far and ones with a lot of park area, even though it is hilly and mountainous.

1. Queen's Park - Undoubtedly in our opinion the best park, quite hilly but very nice and pleasant for families with kids. What makes this a perfect park for parents is that while your kids play in the play area, you can get a birds' eye view of where they are by overlooking them from the hill near it. Even though there are a number of bushes and shrubs where they can hide, they can still be visible. What I like about this park is the fact that the council cleans it all the time and there are signs preventing drug users from defacing the park too much. And yes there are signs for dog owners and collecting dog poo too! The park is also by the impressive Pepper Pot landmark which is very scenic and feels as though you've stepped into a time machine. All in all, a fab park! Thank you to my Mummy friend who recommended it.

2. Preston Park - Most of the Brighton parties now use Preston Park as their party venue. The council also seem lax about it with people often having BBQs here. So far I haven't seen anyone being told off for BBQ-ing here. Preston Park's kiddies play area is really fab with a cool and long slide which props you down in sand. There are tennis courts and basketball courts which can be pre-booked as well as a special gym area for fitness buffs. Expansive stretches and a great green landscape is what makes Preston Park one of the best parks in Brighton. We also love going here because there is a cycle/race track where kids can come and ride bicycles (however you do have to check if there are any cricket matches taking place). Oh and a botanist lady does special plant tours here too, so check online for more info.

3. The Level - Obviously one of the more famous parks but do be careful, it is a big venue for certain strange types. From the homeless to druggies, you do have to be careful if you use the toilets. So make sure you do your bathroom breaks at home before venturing out here. The Level boasts a skatepark, play area, a good Italian restaurant, a coffee stop and special wheels that look like time machine dials. I kid you not! It is also close to London Road which makes it the perfect location to unwind after a busy day of shopping. The play area for kids at the Level are also cool and very creative, with secret tunnels, some musical drums and even some outdoor wind-chimes for effect. The climbing ropes for the young teens and older kids are also very creative and unique. What's more, there is a free water fountain to quench your thirst from should you feel the heat!

4. Saunders Park - Boasting an edible garden and a cool cafe Laz in the Park as well as a kiddies swimming pool (that has not been in operation post-Covid), Saunders Park is another hidden gem. What makes this park cool is that older kids and younger kids can enjoy this park. It is small but has a very impressive tree house with climbing ropes that are perfect for older kids and young teens.

5. Blakers Park - Another lovely and small park which is perfect for kids and families. Really community-minded park and people seem very friendly here.
